know about us
PAFO is a network of African farmers.
PAFO was established in 2010 under the African Union and represents African farmers continent-wide
PAFO is the voice of more than 80 million African farmers integrated into nearly 73 national organizations, unions, federations, cooperatives, associations, etc., present in more than 48 countries on the continent, and united in five regional networks operating at the heart of African agriculture.
MISSION
Foster unity among African farmers’ organizations.
- Ensure the economic and social empowerment of farmers through the representation and defense of their interests on a continental and international scale;
- Participate in capacity building of farmers’ organizations in Africa, through fundraising, institutional development, information and communication, exchange of experiences and dissemination of good agricultural practices
VISION
A thriving, sustainable African agriculture ensuring food security.
The international economic environment today is characterized by a continued decline in food production for export despite a marked improvement in quality. This downward trend is now exacerbated by:
The adoption by Europe and the United States of agriculture from tropical countries with large-scale production that competes with African products while benefiting from subsidies despite the agreements of the World Trade Organization (WTO) ;
Governance Bodies
Structures that guide PAFO’s leadership, ensure accountability, strengthen coordination, and uphold the organization’s mission across the continent.
The Ordinary General Meeting
The General Assembly (GA) is composed of all PAFO member networks.
It elects the Board, nominates the President, and meets once every two years.
Membership is open to any organization affiliated with one of the five PAFO sub-regional member networks.
The Board
The PAFO Board of Directors, chaired by the President for a two-year term, includes the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Women and Youth Representatives elected by their respective groups, and two Ordinary Members assigned specific responsibilities.
PAFO Secretariat
The Secretariat, led by the Executive Secretary under the President’s supervision, manages PAFO’s daily operations, staff oversight, and resource mobilization. PAFO is legally registered in Rwanda as an international NGO, certified by the Rwanda Governance Board under registration number 001/RGB/19.
Our Strategy
- Focuses on strengthening PAFO as an organization to enable it to execute the strategic plan.
- Focus on strengthening farmers as entrepreneurs
- Focuses on influencing laws, policies, programs, financial mechanisms, etc. to benefit farming as a business in Africa.
